fit2cook aims to make healthy eating fun by giving children hands-on experiences with real food, showing them simple ways to eat well.
Over the past 3 years fit2cook has worked with over 60 schools in the South, helping them bring simple cookery back into school. We have run workshops for children and training courses for teachers, using our own seasonal, healthy recipes.
"fit2cook has engaged our children in learning about food in a way I always hoped but never expected - there is real excitement about trying new recipes and tasting different flavours at our weekly food club."
Nicky Osborne, Headteacher at All Saints CE Primary School, Winchester, where fit2cook is running an on-going food and cookery project.
A crucial part of a fit2cook session is exploring where ingredients come from and during 2008, the "Year of Food and Farming" fit2cook developed several food and farming workshops and estate days for schools in conjunction with Hampshire Country Learning.
fit2cook runs hands-on events at the Great Marwell Zoo Food Safari, the Romsey Food Show, The Watercress Festival, the Alresford Show and during the Hampshire Food Festival.
We have also been discovering some exciting young cooks through our new and innovative Create and Cook competition for secondary schools across Hampshire. Now in its second year, Create and Cook 2010 is kindly sponsored by The Southern Co-operative co-op stores.
