Fit2cook runs The Create and Cook Competition, an exciting, innovative and fun cookery competition for years 8 and 9 (ages 12 -14 yrs) in secondary schools in Hampshire and new for 2012 secondary schools in West Sussex. Entering through their school food technology department, young cooks have to design a 2 course menu using as many local ingredients as possible. The aim is to give young cooks a chance to be creative with food and for them to explore the amazing produce grown around them.
Set up 3 years ago by Min Raisman of fit2cook, Andy Mackenzie, Executive Chef at Lainston House Hotel near Winchester and home economist Davina Tibbetts, The Create and Cook Competition has uncovered some fantastic talented cooks who have impressed us with their great tasting food. These young cooks have rooted around their local farmers markets, farm shops and even allotments searching for ingredients that have given rise to their inspiring new recipes.
The 2012 Create and Cook Competition was launched in November to all food technology teachers in West Sussex and Hampshire. The closing date for entries is Friday 30th March 2012 with finals held during the summer term.
We look forward to finding some new top young cooks in West Sussex and Hampshire during 2012!
