The Create and Cook Competition

Fit2cook runs The Create and Cook Competition, an exciting, innovative and fun cookery competition for years 8 and 9 (ages 12 -14 yrs) in secondary schools in Hampshire and new for 2012 secondary schools in West Sussex. Entering through their school food technology department, young cooks have to design a 2 course menu using as many local ingredients as possible. The aim is to give young cooks a chance to be creative with food and for them to explore the amazing produce grown around them.

Set up 3 years ago by Min Raisman of fit2cook, Andy Mackenzie, Executive Chef at Lainston House Hotel near Winchester and home economist Davina Tibbetts, The Create and Cook Competition has uncovered some fantastic talented cooks who have impressed us with their great tasting food. These young cooks have rooted around their local farmers markets, farm shops and even allotments searching for ingredients that have given rise to their inspiring new recipes.

The 2012 Create and Cook Competition is well under way with the Sussex schools final on 10th May 2012 at Chichcester College and the Hampshire schools final on 21st May at Eastleigh College.  Two pairs of young cooks from each County final will go through to the Regional Final on 21st June at Newlyns Farm Cookery School near Hook, Hampshire. We have some fantastic young cooks in our finals and are really looking foward to seeing them cook their locally inspired menus!
